Setting Goals - Why is it important?

Setting goals and keeping track of progress is vital for achievement. It is difficult to have a focused sense of direction without an end-goal in sight. There are various methods for planning and recording goals, however the easiest and commonly most effective is the S.M.A.R.T. process. More will be described below, but for now, let's get some motivation....

While hearing a Pep Talk from the "Kid President' above is amusing, there are definitely some valid points made. First and foremost, if you are going to do something, you might as well do it properly. Commitment and dedication is a trait many successful people share. The good news is, at one point, they began in the same position as you. This means that by actively striving towards greatness yourself, you too can achieve spectacular things. This is where the S.M.A.R.T. system fits in.

The S.M.A.R.T. Goal Setting System

Specific - A specific goal has a much greater chance of being achieved than a general goal

Measurable - Decide how you will measure your progress towards achieving the goal
Attainable - Goals should be achievable in the time frame
Relevant - Goals should be designed to align with the broader direction
Timely - Commit to a deadline
